Love On My Terms

This post is not about me wanting love on my terms; this post is about somebody you know who is living with the mentality of wanting “love on my terms.” When people live with the mentality of “love on my terms,” you’ll find out real quick of how selfish these people really are.

So, what comprises the “love on my terms” mentality? Well, it’s not as difficult as it sounds. It’s ungodly first of all. Most people like this are very conceited. They want to be the center of attention, and they tend to be very narcissistic in nature. They want people to bow down to them and if you don’t, they will make your life a living hell. If you hurt them and you say you’re sorry, they’ll offer you “cheap forgiveness” (I have a blogpost coming on that, so stay tuned). And when you don’t “love on their terms,” you have a lot of making up to do (or should I say a lot of kissing up to do). This is unhealthy for both parties. The one who’s trying to be a good friend and/or relative to this type of person and this person is on such a high horse that they probably don’t even realize they’re living in a glasshouse. Speaking on living in a glasshouse, they don’t want you looking into their world, but they want to look into your world to see how you measure up and how much loving you have to do in order to be in a good standing with them.

Not going to be long-winded on this one, just wanted to show the dangers of living with the “love on my terms” mentality. Easy remedy, understand what agape love is (which is simply a one-sided love). Great reference: C.S. Lewis’ The Four Loves (excellent book, by the way).

  1. I read C.S. Lewis' books and didn't know about this one. Thanks for reference.

I do know people like this, sadly, are family members. They do not think they are selfish and will defend or rationalize why they are not "selfish" at that. I hope they read this article you posted and wake up. Not bashing but trashing the garbage and bring in the new you. Amen.
